WHAT BEER CANADA DOES

For brewers and beer drinkers worldwide, Canadian beer is a staple. Beer Canada was founded in 1943 during the Second World War to meet the need for premium Canadian beer for troops and allies. Since then, we’ve built an association that cares about safeguarding the interests of adult consumers and domestic Canadian breweries, creating a healthy regulated environment, and advocating on our member’s behalf in the industry.

HISTORY OF CANADIAN BEER

Canada’s early days as a brewing nation saw its brewers working in their own homes, brewing for enjoyment and on a few special occasions. A Jesuit brother, Brother Ambroise, was the country’s first recorded brewer, and he began making beer in 1646 following New France’s founding.

In the next few years, by 1688, Jean Talon had founded the country’s first commercial brewery in Quebec City to reduce their dependence on imported brandy, selling brews to the west indies and becoming Canada’s first exported beer.
